Panto season #2
I found these recently, the story of Aladdin didnt have a sleeve unfortunately and they’re both very well played and in poor condition. They almost played without any sticks or jumps…almost.
Panto season!
As it’s panto season I thought I’d share these Selcol flexidisc versions here. Discogs describes Selcol as a ‘UK plastics manufacturer active during the 1950s and 1960s.’
The discs are made from what seems like a very soft, light plastic film (compared to other flexidiscs) backed with printed card.
You can see they have ‘Cut here’ printed on the sides to indicate they were originally cut from something larger, but I dont know what.. I was quite surprised how playable they are though!
Last Christmas Vinyl
Heres the the final selection of vinyl in Bara Menyn Bakehouse until Saturday when they close for a well deserved Christmas holiday.
I have so many more Christmas records that didn’t make the show, many are photographed and up here in my Flickr set including this fab Partridge Family Christmas album.
I couldn’t resist trying it up in a pear tree on a portable player some years ago..what could be more Christmassy!

Super Shiny Sounds of the 70s
I was invited to the Oriel Myrddin Gallery in Carmarthen last week to contribute to their Christmas show event with a 70s record playing ‘Pick Your Own Vinyl’ disco!
I got a chance to try out my new outfit, an upcycled silver jacket by Carys ‘Wenchwear‘ Hedd and the tightest silver jeans I could find and squeeze into, I think I may have found my new look!…

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
The sound of Christmas can often be heard in shops from early Autumn with Christmas rock anthems like Slade’s ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ and Wizzard’s ‘I wish it Could be Christmas Everyday’ combining with Christmas pop songs, carols and charity singles to saturate our public spaces.
The similarity of songs within the genres and their familiarity through repetition year after year, both annoys and entertains in equal measure – much like a traditional family Christmas.
Last week Bara Menyn Bakehouse saw the transition completed from the Halloween themed vinyl to Christmas, with a new display of 7inch records connected to Christmas in Wales.
This week sees an increasingly Christmassy selection with new 12inch records, some with a Welsh connection.
The collection will continue to change as the festive season continues.

More 70s data
Sorting my 7inch record database by date to find the 70s records reveals quite a collection (Click to look closer). Seeing what I have is easy enough, finding the actual records is much trickier!
Currently scattered around the house there are some 3020 7inch records that have been added to the database and more still to list..
Christmas Spirits
Now the spooky season has gone its almost time to go full on Christmas…
I thought I’d ease the lovely folk at Bara Menyn Bakehouse into the festive vinyl with a few albums to lead the spirits from one to the other…
Ghost stories are a great part of the Christmas entertainment of course, I’d love to find some M.R James on vinyl…

In anticipation of the Oriel Myrddin Taste Night next week I have started sorting through 45s for my 70s selection box…

I recently started to alphabetise my 7inch collection, though so far I’ve just done the ones in picture sleeves, eventually my database will become much more useful! Below is the first page of entries arranged by date starting 1970…
I will be mostly playing the 70s selections on this Technics SL-Q2 (kindly donated by Toby Downing I think). According to vinylengine.com it dates from 1979-1981 so rather appropriate I’d say!
Given the quantity of disco music that’s likely to feature, I think it’s only right that I try out my latest mirror ball finds, look at them shine!
